The US and the LHC
Scientists from US universities and national laboratories have participated in the design and construction of the Large Hadron Collider and collaborate with colleagues at CERN on the startup of the accelerator. They will work in the years ahead on further research and development for upgrades to the LHC.
More than 1,700 scientists, engineers and graduate students from US institutions collaborate on the six LHC experiments: ALICE, ATLAS, CMS, LHCb, LHCf and TOTEM. US groups contribute to the construction and operation of the complex detectors and computing systems. US scientists will play key roles in the scientific discoveries to come when the LHC and experiments begin running.
